What Information Is Needed for a Custom Fiberglass Quotation?

A clear project brief helps fiberglass manufacturers evaluate production methods, tooling, cost and lead time more accurately. Drawings, dimensions, quantities and reference images are usually the most important information needed to prepare a quotation.

What Information Is Needed for a Custom Fiberglass Quotation?

Custom fiberglass products are usually made specifically for each project. Unlike standard products, there may be no existing mold, fixed size or standard production method.

Providing clear project information at the beginning allows the manufacturer to understand the product, evaluate how it should be made and prepare a more accurate quotation.

Here are the main details that are helpful when requesting a custom fiberglass quotation.

1. Drawings or 3D Files

Technical drawings are the best starting point when available.

They can show the overall dimensions, proportions, construction details and other important specifications. For products with complex shapes, 3D files such as STP, STEP or STL can be particularly useful for evaluating the geometry and preparing prototypes or molds.

If drawings are not available, reference images and sketches can also be used for an initial evaluation.

2. Product Dimensions

Please provide the approximate or final dimensions of the product.

For example:

  • Height
  • Width
  • Depth
  • Diameter
  • Wall thickness, when specified

Even approximate dimensions are useful during the early quotation stage.

3. Required Quantity

Quantity can significantly affect the manufacturing method and unit cost.

A one-off sculpture may require a different production approach from a project involving hundreds of identical fiberglass components.

Knowing the estimated quantity helps determine the appropriate tooling, mold construction and production process.

4. Surface Finish and Color

Fiberglass products can be produced with many different surface finishes.

Depending on the project, these may include gloss or matte paint, metallic finishes, textured surfaces, special decorative effects or specified colors.

If an exact color is required, a Pantone, RAL or physical color sample can help establish the finishing requirement.

5. Indoor or Outdoor Use

It is important to know where the finished product will be used.

Outdoor fiberglass products may require additional consideration for UV exposure, rain, temperature changes, structural stability and mounting.

For large installations, information about the installation environment can also help determine the internal structure and fixing method.

6. Installation and Structural Requirements

Some custom fiberglass products require internal steel frames, mounting plates, brackets, connection points or other structural components.

If the product will be suspended, fixed to a wall, installed outdoors or connected to another structure, this information should be provided during the quotation stage whenever possible.

7. Delivery Destination and Required Date

For international projects, the delivery destination is useful for estimating packing and transportation requirements.

If there is a fixed installation or opening date, providing the required delivery date also allows the manufacturer to evaluate whether sufficient time is available for prototyping, mold making, production, finishing and shipping.

What If You Do Not Have Complete Drawings?

Complete technical drawings are helpful, but they are not always necessary for the initial discussion.

SOARPEAN can review reference images, sketches, approximate dimensions or design concepts and help determine what additional information is required before production.

For more complex projects, the design can be developed further through prototyping and sample approval before mass production begins.
